Whats the difference between Airport and Airport Extreme?

Airport,:ApplesĀ  word for wireless hardware connectivity was introduced when Mac OS X was new to the world. Airport is based on the 80211.b 11mbits(megabits) a second technology.

Airport Extreme is based on the 80211.g 54mbits(megabits) per second technology.

Apple released two AIRPORT BASE STATIONS with two colors Graphite and WHITE.

GRAPHITE: Is the original supporting 802.11b and also uses a standard phone jack.

White: Uses 80211.b but adds America Online Support, Built in firewall protection and support for 128 bit WEP security.

Airport Extreme Base Station: Uses the 80211.g protocol. (if you bought this unit it may need a firmware update if it does not function properly)

Note: Airport issues can be resolved through the Airport Admin Utility in Mac OS X.
